$4000 First-Time Homebuyer Grant Available For Public Safety Reponders

The Southland Regional Association of Realtors (SRAR) announced today that they will begin to accept applications from Santa Clarita and the San Fernando Valley for a $4,000 grant. Qualifying first-time homebuyers for this grant must be “Public Safety Responders,” which includes: Police Officers, Sheriffs, Firefighters, Emergency Medical Technicians, and California Highway Patrol.
 


NOTE: The $4,000 grant money comes from the California Association of Realtors Housing Affordability Fund (HAF).
THERE ARE A LIMITED NUMBER OF GRANTS. GRANTS WILL BE AWARDED TO QUALIFIED APPLICANTS BASED ON AVAILABILITY OF FUNDS AND ACCORDING TO INDIVIDUAL APPLICANT NEED, AS DETERMINED BY THE REVIEWING COMMITTEE. BUYERS MUST BE ADVISED THAT SIMPLY SUBMITTING AN APPLICATION DOES NOT GUARANTEE AN AWARDED GRANT. The are some requirements for the grant money, as well as income limitations.
  • Applicant must be a first-time homebuyer, as defined by the State of California.
  • Applicant must use a Realtor member of the Southland Regional Association of Realtors in the purchase of their home through the close of escrow.
  • Applicant must be an employee of a fire department, police department, or paramedic unit within the city of Los Angeles, Santa Clarita, or San Fernando, or the California Highway Patrol and must provide evidence of such employment.
  • Applicant must also participate in ONE of the following programs, all of which have similar income limits:
    • Walk-in homebuyer program (City of Los Angeles)
    • American Dream Down Payment Initiative (ADDI) (City of Los Angeles)
    • Low Income Purchase Assistance Program (LIPAP)(City of Los Angeles)
    • Mortgage Credit Certificate Program (MCC)(City of Los Angeles & LA County)
    • Housing Economic Recovery Ownership (HERO)
    • Home Ownership Program (HOP) (Selected cities of Los Angeles)
    • Southern California Home Financing Authority (SCHFA) (County of Los Angeles except city of Los Angeles)
    • Employer Assistance Programs
    • The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Developments (HUD) Good Neighbor Next Door Program
  • Applicant must attend the Los Angeles neighborhood Housing Services (LANHS) First-Time Homebuyer seminar and must prove the successful completion of the seminar with the certificate provided by LANHS.

This is first come first serve, until the funded program runs out of money. Grants will be awarded to qualified applicants based on availability of funds and according to individual applicant need, as determined by the reviewing committee.
